So, what does a County Commissioner do? This is a frequent question, and the answer can be long and complex. So instead, I offer you my entire schedule for a recent week.
January 4th to 10th
Monday, January 4th
- 8:00 am - Breakfast meeting with newly elected School Board Member, Paula Noonan
- First day back from vacation - catch up on mail, email, phone calls
Tuesday, January 5th
- 8 am - Board of County Commissioners Hearing - hearing included a proposed change
to Zoning Resolution to allow short term vacation rentals in residential neighborhoods. Proposal was denied on my motion. To see hearing, click here
- 10:00 am - Staff Briefings - This is a regular weekly meeting in which staff brief the Board
on county activities, and bring forward proposed actions, contracts, or policy changes for Board approval. All items approved at Briefings will normally be on the Consent Agenda for the next Board of County Commissioners Hearing.
- 12:00 pm - Lunch meeting with Jefferson Economic Council Executive Committee
- 1:30 pm - Commissioners meet with County Administrator Ralph Schell
- 5:30 pm - Dinner meeting to honor departing Chairman of Board of Jefferson Center for
Mental Health
Wednesday, January 6th
- 7:30 am - Mall Walking at Colorado Mills with West Chamber and St. Anthony's
- 10:00 am to 4 pm - meetings with County Administrator, Transportation and Development
Director, County Attorney, and Public Information Officer, as well as time spent writing newsletter and responding to emails and telephone calls
- 6:30 pm - Denver Regional Council of Governments, Metro Visions Issue Committee
- meeting of representatives from 56 area governments on Regional Transportation and other issues. Major agenda item was discussion of whether the proposed Jefferson Parkway should be included in DRCOG's fiscally-constrained Regional Transportation Plan.
Thursday, January 7th
- 8:00 am to 11:00 am - follow up from DRCOG meeting
- 11:30 am - Meeting with candidate for RTD Board
- 4:00 pm - Town Hall Meeting with Senator Bennet - I was asked to introduce the Senator
Friday, January 8th
- 7:30 am - Metro Mayors FastTracks Oversight Group - received summary of Annual
Program Evaluation from RTD Executive Director and Senior Management
- (7:30 am - Conifer Chamber of Commerce - not able to attend this meeting because of above
commitment.)
- 9:30 am - 4:00 pm - Front Range Roundtable - quarterly meeting of staff and elected
officials from Front Range Counties, US Forest Service, State Forest Service, Denver Water, and others on status of wildfire and bark beetle mitigation
Saturday, Januray 9th
- 9:30 am - participate in Lakewood Town Hall with State Treasurer Cary Kennedy,
Lakewood Council Members Sue King, Karen Kellin, Dave Weitzmann, and Mike Quinn, State Reps Ken Summers and Max Tyler, and State Senator Betty Boyd
